YOUNG RESEARCHERS CONTEST

The Organizing Committee of Jicable HVDC’25 is launching a Young Researchers Contest to encourage the participation of students and young researchers.

Full-time eligible researchers (see eligibility below) are invited to submit abstracts of their research work. The topic of the abstract must align with one of the program categories listed below. Authors of selected abstracts will be invited to submit a full paper and present their work in a poster session at Jicable HVDC’25. Participants will also be required to answer questions during a special session at Jicable HVDC’25.

The first author of each selected paper will be exempt from the registration fee.

1. HVDC Cable Development: Conception, design, modelling and simulation studies, production and environmental constraints for HVDC cables and accessories, qualification tests of new production lines.

2. Fundamental material performance aspects: new materials, space charges, interfaces, aging, and related material testing methods.

3. New developments within the HVDC cable system: Interactions between converters and cable systems (transient overvoltage, ...), integration of HVDC links in existing HVAC networks, developments towards hybrid HVDC/Mixed transmission cable infrastructure, meshed grids and multi terminal (MTDC) system implications, very long length DC cables, exploring the impact of HVDC cable systems on grid stability, control mechanisms, and the integration of advanced control technologies, MVDC cable systems and applications.

4. Test method developments for DC cable systems: Testing methods and test modeling, qualification, development and screening test methodology, after installation tests and other quality management methods.

5. New mechanical frontiers for HVDC cabling: Deepwater HVDC cable projects, dynamic HVDC cabling and projects, alternative water barriers and armoring/protection packages for the HVDC cable, novel bundling techniques, mechanical testing and analyses.

6. Monitoring & service aspects: Laying methods including environmental issues, repair methods for cables and accessories, fault location, maintenance, re-energizing of HVDC links, monitoring of (HVDC) cable systems, and feedback from near end-of-design-life DC operation.

7. Sustainability and environmental aspects: Sustainability analysis and improvements theoretical and practical aspects of recyclability of (HVDC) cable system components, environmental impact studies of installed cable systems and HSE topics, all including their economic aspects.

Selected papers will be presented during a special session “young researchers” whose organization will take in account the constraints of a hybrid event. Details and recommendations will be available on hvdc25.jicable.org from September 15th, 2025.

Papers will be reviewed by a jury during the symposium.

Prizes will be awarded to the authors of the three best e-posters.

Authors shall grant copyright to Jicable for abstracts, full papers and presentations which could be part of HVDC'21 proceedings communicated to symposium attendees.
